News from Melissa |

"I've made some unusual new purchases for the Kellogg Library,
one of these is the November 1905 issue of Pacific Monthly. It includes
the article 'Autobiography of Homer Davenport' and numerous of Mr. Davenport's cartoons.
One of them is none too flattering of August Belmont of the Jockey Club. It is
possibly the cartoon that led to the Jockey Club's refusal to register
Davenport's 1906 desert imports and thus ultimately responsible for
founding of the Arabian Horse Club of America (later AHRA) in 1908."
(I've read portions of this article and highly
recommend it for its insights into Mr. Davenport's personality and his love of the
Arabian Horse! ~spm) (01/25/05) |
