From our Arieana Notebook: Sheria was straight-Davenport,
being the breeding result of two horses from out of Davenport's purebred Arabian Importation
of 1906. Although registered as bred by Hingham Stock Farm, Sheria
was actually bred by Homer Davenport; former rules of the Registry listed
the "breeder" as the owner of the mare at time of foaling rather
than at the time the mare was bred. Sheria was purchased from
Hingham Stock Farm in September 1921 by Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert Winant
and less than one year later by Morton S. Hawkins of Portland, Indiana.
Mr. Hawkins was soon overcome with severe bankruptcy problems and his
horses fell into neglect, some even reportedly perished. Sheria may
have been one of the unfortunates who died during that time, for we have
no further information available to us on her life after that sale to
Hawkins on July 8, 1922.

From our Arieana Notebook: Straight Davenport.
Sherlet was one of eleven
horses purchased in 1924 from Hingham Stock Farm by Carl Schmidt (Raswan)
for Chauncey D. Clarke's Point Happy Ranch in the Palm Springs-Indio area
of California. When Mr.
Clarke became ill a few months later, Mr. W. K. Kellogg stepped in and on March 24,
1925 purchased this same group of eleven horses which became the foundation stock for
his ranch in the planning stages at Pomona, California. Among Sherlet's foals was
Raseyna, full
sister to the stallion Ralet (the famous liberty jumper in Kellogg's
Sunday Shows). Sherlet, in foal to *Raseyn
with Raseyna,
was purchased from Kellogg by Robert T. Wilson of Prescott, Arizona in
April, 1934. Sherlet died in 1940 leaving a legacy of foals renown for their excellent "using" abilities ~ from show
horses to working ranch horses.
