From our Arieana Notebook: Sheba was the breeding result of two horses from out of the purebred Arabian bloodstock of the Hamidie Society's Exhibition at the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. Sheba was bred by Peter B. Bradley who by then owned both her sire and dam. Sheba's ownership later transferred to Homer Davenport who in his turn in 1908 sold her to Eleanor Gates Tulley of Alma, California.

There is no known photo of Sheba's dam, *Pride, so brief mention here of her story seems appropriate. *Pride's dam *Galfia arrived in the United States already in foal, and it was after the Hamidie Exhibition in the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 was over and *Galfia was on her way via train to Peter Bradley's Hingham Stock Farm in Hingham, Massachusetts that this en-utero filly foal, later registered as *Pride, was born near Albany, New York. *Pride at first was simply called "Albani" after the town where she was born; *Pride was also at times called "Dawn".

For further study on the horses and circumstances surrounding the Hamidie Society's Importation, Horses of the White City is recommended. Additional details, photos, and information can be found in Carol W. Mulder's books, Imported Foundation Stock of North American Arabian Horses. Volumes 1 & 2 (Revised Editions). Borden Publishing Company, Los Angeles, California. 1993.
