From our Arieana Notebook: Rosemary is one of several daughters of the Crabbet Park Stud's Foundation Mare Rodania which have influence in the pedigrees of Arieana's Arabians. Sold as a 2 year old and then repurchased as a 4 year old, Rosemary had a long and productive life at Crabbet, serving the family as a driving mare, a show mare, and a broodmare. Among her honors: 1st Prize for Arab Brood Mares at Crystal Palace on May 28, 1898. But then towards the end of her productive life, at 24 years old, she was given away, then stolen, and then disappeared without a trace.

Rodania was covered by both Proximo and Jeroboam in the year 1885, but because of Rosemary's resemblance to Jeroboam as a youngster and because Proximo was generally considered to be infertile that year due to a bad case of barsati (a disease causing skin ulcers overlying fibrous tumors), Jeroboam is generally accepted as the sire of Rosemary and our pedigrees are written accordingly.
