From our Arieana Notebook: *Noam, a daughter of *Narda II foaled in Massachusetts in 1911, was imported en utero and had actually been bred in England at Crabbet Park Stud; tradition in those days gave named breeder rights to the owner of the dam at time of foaling, so F. Lathrop Ames is our Arabian Horse Registry's listed breeder. F. Lathrop Ames lost interest in Arabians soon after this importation and sold *Noam to Herbert J. Brown of Graunkar Stud, Fallmouth Foreside, Maine. When *Noam was four, Herbert J. Brown sold her to his brother W.R. Brown, and *Noam was moved to his Maynesboro Stud at Berlin, New Hampshire.

*Noam was the dam of 6 registered purebred Arabian foals (2 colts and 4 fillies) of which her daughter Nusara is of significance mid-pedigree in Arieana Arabians. We are proud of her influence as *Noam, a full sister to the gallant gelding *Crabbet, was herself also a proven endurance mare, having completed the Army Endurance Test Ride in 1920. For this ride, *Noam, at nine years old with four foals already to her credit, was pressed into service directly out of the broodmare pasture, and she finished the five-day, 300 mile test without injury of any kind while carrying 245 pounds (one-third of her own weight). On December 11, 1922, *Noam was sold to William Sergeant Kendall of Hot Springs, Virginia and for whom she had her last foal at age 18. No death date is given for *Noam.

For further reading on *Noam and her life, we recommend Carol June Woodbridge Mulder's Imported Foundation Stock of North American Horses, Volume 2 (Revised Edition). Borden Publishing Company, Los Angeles, CA. 1993. pp. 50-55.
