From
our Arieana Notebook:
On a visit to the Hearst Ranch in 1982, we saw and fell in love with Jolley
Pico and she became our ideal of the
perfect foundation mare for Arieana Arabians. She was not for sale,
never had been, and as Harry Harness told me:
"The Hearsts would never part with Jolley." And they never did.
Jolley Pico lived all her life with
The Hearst Family at their ranch on Pico Creek in San Simeon,
California, and my last memory of Jolley Pico is of her grazing
peacefully on the
grassy hillside pasture overlooking Pico Creek and the Pacific Ocean.
True to the Hearst tradition that all mares be proven in performance before entering the broodmare band, Jolley Pico was
trained and shown as a jumper and in Class A Halter classes. She was never
unplaced.
Dam of 10
registered purebred Arabian foals (4 colts and 6 fillies) including her two
daughters and the foundation mares of Arieana Arabians: Haapey
Pico and Gleeful Pico. She is
also the dam of Pico Haat Shaat, sire of Blitzen of Pico
who sired our rising star and future herd sire prospect Goldfire
AA.
We highly value the influence of Jolley Pico in
our breeding program for her beauty, style and elegance, conformation and
disposition. Her tail female mtDNA is derived from the Abbas Pasha mare
Ghazieh and her descendants, and with that comes promise for courage, productivity, and
devotion. To read more about this dynastic mare family, please go to Guemura's
and Ghanigat's pages in our Heritage Notebook.
