From
our Arieana Notebook: Jeroboam was highly favored at Crabbet. We
have these notes as written about him by Lady Anne Blunt: "Fine
coat, always with a gloss of satin on it, this was inherited from both
dam and sire [Pharaoh]. Remarkably good in harness, single and double. Jeroboam
perished at sea, in consequence of bad weather, and of being on a small
steamer of about 500 tons. He was shipped in October 1887, with
Rataplan, under charge of [Sam] Webb, for Egypt, and died on the
voyage." "Jeroboam has an honourable position with us as sire
of Rosemary from whom some of our best stock is descended."

Century of Crabbet Breeding. The Crabbet Organisation. 2002.)

From
our Arieana Notebook: Joon is noted in several sources
as a foundation sire for the William R. Hearst Stud at San Simeon,
California. The exact date and circumstances of Mr. Hearst's purchase of
Joon are unknown to us and we are still seeking out that
information, but we do know that as early as 1919, William Randolph
Hearst began to admire, ride, and breed Arabian horses. Since the above
photo includes stallions purchased during the Maynesboro dispersal sale,
this photo would most likely have been taken circa 1937; Joon is identified as the first stallion on the left. (Source: Hearst, Jr., Mrs. William Randolph, "Chapter
11:The Arabians," The Horses of San Simeon, San Simeon Press, San Simeon,
California. 1985. pp. 180-201.)
