From
our Arieana Notebook: Haat Shaat+, a 16 HH liver chestnut with some roaning in his coat,
was long remembered for his magnificent bearing and electrifying trot by Mr. Richard Skinner who purchased
this stallion in his later years and stood him at stud for Mr. and Mrs. William
Randolph Hearst Jr. at their Pico Creek Stables in San Simeon,
California.
Haat Shaat+ was aptly named. He had an illustrious show career
beginning in 1959 when he won the yearling colt class at the Southern All
Arabian Show. He was campaigned all over the West, piling up Class A Championships in
Halter, Park, and Formal Driving, culminating as Canadian National Reserve
Champion Park Horse and U.S. Top Ten Park Horse in
1966 as well as U.S. Reserve Halter Champion that same year. Gladys Brown Edwards in her book The
Arabian: War Horse to Show Horse writes of him "...as a real hot
shot in park classes." (page 237)
Please go to Part II to read about Haat Shaat+'s
influence as a sire in racing and Part III
to read about his influence as a sire of show and sport horses.
