From our Arieana Notebook:
Ghazil was noted as a very beautiful mare with a lovely fine
head, reflecting that special stamp of quality *Abu Zeyd put on his
daughters for good riding horse conformation combined with an exquisite, dry, extreme, antique Arabian type. During her lifetime Ghazil was
owned by E.W. Hassan of New York and General J.M. Dickinson (Traveler's
Rest) of Franklin, Tennessee. Ghazil is the only daughter of *Hamida
to breed on into modern pedigrees, and at Arieana Arabians we highly value
this rare and unique source of Bint
Helwa blood as it comes down to us through her daughter Hawija.

Dam of 12 registered purebred Arabian foals (7 colts and 5 fillies) of which

male sire lines in the breeding program of
Arieana's Arabians (see Rahas and Balastra).

From our Arieana Notebook:
Gulnare, a dynastic mare of the highest distinction with many outstanding
foals to her credit, will long be treasured here at Arieana
Arabians as the dam of Gulastra, the greatest progenitor of the Mesaoud
sire line in the United States.
A most well-bred mare of
illustrious pedigree and a maternal half-sister to Guemura,
Gulnare
had three special owners in her lifetime. The first was her breeder Spencer Borden
for whom she had 1 foal. Borden then sold her sometime between 1917
and 1921 to W.R. Brown for whom she had 7 foals, including Gulastra, a
stallion of major significance in our pedigrees through his two sons Rahas
and Balastra.
Then sometime between 1930-1931 Brown sold Gulnare to General Dickinson for whom she had
her remaining 4 foals. And just as General Dickinson treasured his
"G" mares and their produce, the name and influence of Gulnare
and her sons and daughters are
still much treasured and sought after today in purebred Arabian horses
at Arieana Arabians and world-wide.
Of special note and interest
is that the Bint Helwa dam line
itself eventually died out at Crabbet, though at times Lady Wentworth did
make great effort to revive it. But through the Gulnare
daughter Gayza (x Bazleyd) and the Gulnare granddaughter Gara (Gharifet x
Bazleyd) this highly-valued Bint
Helwa mare line was returned to England and
has bred on successfully there to this present day.
