From our Arieana Notebook: El Jafil, the colt at Sheba's side in the photo above, was foaled on August 2, 1909 when Sheba was 7 years old and in California with Eleanor Gates (Tulley). El Jafil's sire, *Ibn Mahruss, was imported from Crabbet in 1900 and also sold to Eleanor Gates Tulley in 1908. El Jafil was highly regarded as the sire of El Sabok, a stallion whose incredible feats of Endurance won him a place in the hearts and minds of Albert Harris and the U.S. Army Remount program.
