From our Arieana Notebook: Amazon of Pico was bred by Mr. and Mrs. William Randolph Hearst Jr. and lived all her life with them at their ranch on Pico Creek in San Simeon, California. True to the Hearst tradition that all mares be proven in performance before entering their broodmare band, Amazon of Pico was shown by Nicki McGinnis to Reserve Champion Halter Mare, seven-times Class A Show Champion Jumper, and then culminating Amazon of Pico's Class A show career with the title of 1979 U.S. Top Ten Jumper.

To this day, people here in the Southland still remember this big (15.3 hands), bold, jumping grey mare sailing over those fences, for she was absolutely breath-taking in her color, form, and style.

We at Arieana Arabians feel so fortunate that the Amazon of Pico influence carries on in the foals sired for us by her son, Blitzen of Pico, with that very same elegance, beauty, form to function conformation, and pure athleticism.
